Instagram Reels Download Not Working? 9 Fixes That Work

You paste a link, tap download, and nothing happens, or you get an error. It’s frustrating, but the cause is usually simple. Most failed Reel downloads come down to a handful of fixable issues, and you can test them in about a minute.

Work through the fixes below in order. They apply to any Instagram Reels downloader, on iPhone, Android, or a computer.

Quick diagnosis

What you see Most likely cause Fix
“Not found” or “invalid link” Incomplete or wrong link Fixes 2 and 3
Reel won’t load at all Private, deleted, or restricted Reel Fixes 1 and 4
Download button does nothing In-app browser, blocker, or storage Fixes 5, 6, 8
Page is slow or stuck Cache or network issue Fixes 7 and 9

1. Check that the Reel is public

Online downloaders can only fetch public Reels. If the account is private, the Reel is protected by the owner’s settings and no tool can access it. A simple test: open the Reel in a private or logged-out browser window. If you can’t watch it there, it can’t be downloaded.

2. Copy the full link again

A link cut off by a messaging app is the most common cause of errors. Go back to the Reel and copy the link fresh using Share > Copy link, then paste it again.

3. Make sure it’s a Reel link, not a username, story, or profile

A Reels downloader needs the link to the Reel itself, usually instagram.com/reel/XXXXX/. A username or profile link won’t work. For stories, use our Instagram Story Saver instead, and for regular feed videos use the Instagram video downloader.

4. Check whether the Reel was deleted or restricted

Creators can delete Reels or change who can see them. If the Reel no longer opens on Instagram, there is nothing for a downloader to fetch.

5. Don’t use the Instagram in-app browser

When you tap a link inside Instagram, it often opens in a built-in browser that blocks downloads. Copy the link and open the downloader in Safari, Chrome, or another normal browser.

6. Turn off VPN, ad blockers, and aggressive privacy extensions

These can interrupt the request or the final file download. Pause them for the page, try again, and turn them back on afterwards.

7. Clear your cache or use a private window

An old cached copy of the page can cause odd behavior. Open the downloader in an Incognito or Private window, or clear your browser cache.

8. Check storage and download permissions

A phone or computer that is nearly full can fail silently. Free up space, and on Android make sure your browser is allowed to download files. On iPhone, check Settings > Safari > Downloads.

9. Wait a moment and try again

Instagram sometimes changes how it serves videos, and heavy traffic can slow things down. If everything else checks out, try again in a few minutes or from a different network, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.

Still stuck?

Try a different Reel. If other Reels download fine, the problem is with that one Reel (private, deleted, or restricted). If none work, retry from a different browser and network.

FAQ

Why does my Reel link say it’s invalid?

Usually the link is incomplete, points to a profile or story, or the Reel is private or removed.

Does it work on every device?

Yes. The same fixes apply on iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac.

Will a different browser help?

Often yes, especially if the first browser has extensions or settings that block downloads.
